Introduction: Bladder urine retention is the most common urological emergency in our country. The aim of this study was to determine the etiologies and management of bladder urine retention. Methodology: This was a retrospective descriptive study lasting 3 years (from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022). All records of patients with acute or chronic urinary retention were included, with an etiological diagnosis and management. Results: During our study period, 511 patients were seen for bladder urine retention in the urol-ogy department of the Ignace Deen National Hospital. This represented 62.3% compared to oth-er urological emergencies. The average age of our patients was 68.04 years. Among the socio-professional categories, farmers were the most represented with 51.08% (n=261) of cases. The reasons for consultations were dominated by the RCIUV with 82%. All our patients benefited from emergency urinary bladder drainage by urethral catheterization in 84.5% of cases. The most frequent etiological diagnosis was prostate tumors with 88.8%; followed by urethral stenosis 10% and bladder stones 2.7%. Transvesical adenomectomy of the prostate was the most commonly used surgical method with 79.3% of cases, followed by transuretal resection of the prostate with 8.3% of cases. Conclusion: Bladder urine retention is the leading urological emergency in our coun-try with 62.3% of our activities. The diagnosis is essentially clinical and is based on the presence of the bladder globe. Urethral catheterization has been the most commonly used mode of drainage in our practices. Etiological treatment depends on the etiology.
